Our laboratory focuses on the circuitry of the hippocampus and anatomically related regions. We use a combination of techniques, including large scale multielectrode recording, real-time signal processing and targeted optogenetic interventions and behavioral manipulations of awake, behaving animals to understand how the brain learns, remembers and decides. As a Fellow and Instructor there, he trained in Dr. Charles Sawyers' lab and the Genitourinary Service, performing sensitization screens and studying how oncogenic transcription factors give rise to prostate cancer. We added a weekly hour-long lab-wide meeting on diversity, equity, and inclusion to facilitate education, discussion, planning, and follow-through of our own efforts. So far, these have included in-depth discussions on counteracting white supremacy culture in academia, building an inclusive and supportive lab culture for trainees, and collectively drafting a laboratory compact.
